CV Writing Tips

There are various ways a CV can be laid out and everyone has their own opinion on what format looks best, choose a format you feel works best with the skills you have to offer. It is very important that your CV is simple, easy to read and informative.  A CV is your very own marketing tool, unlike an application form a CV allows the applicant to decide what information is most relevant to the role.

  1. Ideally a CV should be no more than 2 pages.

  2. Ensure you use the same font throughout the CV.  Never write in capitals, this will often make it harder to read.

  3. There is no need to entitle your CV Curriculum Vitae, as any employer will recognise that it is what they are reading, it’s best to have your name as the main title and this should help the employer remember you.

  4. It’s important that you only draw attention to achievements and recent responsibilities if they are relevant to the position or type of work you are applying for.

  5. New graduates should include any project titles, industrial experience details and subject titles from degrees as employers will not always be aware of what areas different degree courses cover and this may also make them aware of modules and subject areas you choose to specialise in.

We will be happy to advise you on your CV and what it should include if you are not sure.
